You can pilot a jumbo jet as you take people all over the world on their vacations and business trips.

Or, you may get stuck with a certain scenario such as having to fly through a dangerous thunderstorm. There are a ton of different missions for you to do in the career mode and I really liked how Microsoft Flight Simulator kept things fresh by making there be a lot of variety to them. As is the case with all games in this series, the learning curve here is very steep.

I played the game with the keyboard and was able to do fine. However, I highly recommend that you play the tutorial first. This is pretty fun and it does a good job of teaching you how the game actually works. It may take a while to get it down, but once you do, you have it for life and can probably then jump into any other game in the series. I will say that playing with the keyboard is fine, but if you want the real deal experience one of those very expensive flight sticks is the way to go!

There is also a free play mode which allows you to get into the cockpit of one of the many types of plane that the game has and just fly from point a to point b. This is the mode I like to play when I am in the mood to just screw around with the game.

A few of the major things that they added in to Microsoft Flight Simulator are first of all a ton more airports all over the world. There are lost more cities to fly over and there are also these amazing dynamic weather effects as well. The whole game has been given a real shot in the arm in the visual department and I remember at the time it was released we had a very respectable PC, but when there was a lot of stuff on the screen, it would chug along a bit. The sound effects have always been a strong point of this series and this game sounds fantastic.

They had to have recorded tons of hours of actual footage from real airports as it all sounds very realistic. I know that these types of games are not for everyone, but I do feel that Microsoft Flight Simulator is one of the best out of the earlier games in this franchise. It was a game I spent a great deal of time with back in the day and I must say that it holds up pretty well today.

Some people may wonder what all the fuss is about in terms of the visuals, but I still feel the game looks pretty damn good. So, the latest version of Microsoft's flight sim operating system has arrived. Some history. With Flight Sim 95 and 98, Microsoft pretty much had the field to themselves.

Sure there were some extremely specialist alternatives out there, but ask the man in the street to name a flight sim without guns and Gates's baby was the answer they'd give.

Hence Microsoft got lazy. Rant on Why bother with attractive front-ends or setup screens that made sense. Key configurations? Hell we'll just assign keys to various functions at random. Who's going to know. Function keys! Yeah, that'll work. Today it's a different story. In the last couple of years the civil aviation genre has exploded not literally, that would be taking the realism aspects a bit too far. Have Microsoft learned from this with their latest title in the series? Rant off. First up, what's new?

Fans of the series will be pleased to note that this time round Microsoft have thoughtfully included a manual with the game. A big one too. Over pages, crammed with tips, flight lessons, aircraft descriptions, sectional maps, Uncle Tom Cobbly and all.

Which is nice. Although here we hit the first of-the game's problems. Flight Sim , as we mentioned in the Tech Specs panel, is ridiculously processor-hungry. You'll be getting frame rates of per second at best, which makes smooth flying only possible if you're over barren, icy wastelands and makes landing impossible.

There has been a problem identified with the simulation of the gyroscopic attitude indicators. If you have trouble to run Microsoft Flight Simulator Professional Edition Windows , read the abandonware guide first!
